Response to James Ranck

Great Granddaughter

Family News flashRachel is home from Puerto Rico.  The Old Fool and Great Granddaughter Samatha Stoltzfus are having a morning together because she doesn’t feel so well and everyone but The Old Fool is at work.

A political word:  Sojourners Magazine is a non-profit organization that does not endorse candidates for office.  However it does believe that voting matters and urges Christians to vote a consistent ethic of life that will pull the plug on capital punishment, reduce abortions, protect civilians, and stand against genocide. The magazine notes that 17 states have abolished the death penalty and 12 states had pending legislation in 2012.  The source of their information is: Death Penalty Information Center.  Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.   Proverbs 31:9.

Now The Old Fool begins a response to the lengthy comment by James Ranck to the fool’s proposal that Genesis 1 and 2 be regarded as myth. Jim’s comments were sincere, thoughtful and courteous.   The Old Fool appreciated Jim’s response and hopes that many others will also comment on his posts.  He recognizes that he is fallible and knows that he doesn’t know it all.

The Old Fool is sorry that he disappointed Jim and gave him a restless night..  Jim is not the first one to be disappointed in The Old Fool.  Those who know him best know that he is not a perfect man.  God’s grace is sufficient for Jim and me.  He is glad, however, that he disturbed Jim. He doesn’t write to merely entertain, but to make readers think.  And Jim is thinking.

The Old Fool agrees with the motto, Thy Word is Truth, provided it is understood that Jesus is the Word rather than a book, even a book as wonderful as the Bible.  Jesus said that he was the truth. The Old Fool enjoyed his years with the Bible and, as he said in The Fantasy Sermon, if he had another life time preaching his principle resource would be the Bible.

About Martin Lehman

I was born 92 years ago, the son of a Mennonite pastor and organic gardener in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. At age 10 I was baptized as a member of the Marion Mennonite Church. I own the "Old Fool" moniker because I want to walk the Jesus Way even though the world and much of the church takes me as a fool for doing so. In my life I have moved from being a young conservative to an elderly radical. I tell that story in My Faith Journey posted on my website.
