Its all about Jesus

Goshen College is on the front page of The Elkhart Truth because it is graduation time.  And the name of Muhammad Rasoulipour merits a place as one of the 244 graduates.  He is unique as a Muslim from Iran who majored in the study of  Religion and Bible at Goshen College.

According to the Truth the young man wants to be a part of interfaith dialogue and create a connection between his homeland and the US.  So he chose to study Bible at a Mennonite College in the US and is the first Muslim to graduate from Goshen College with a Religion snd Bible degree. You can read the Elkart Truth’s interesting account of his religious fervor and family connections with Mennonites by clicking here

I wondered if Rasonlipour’s religious fervor is known beyond Elkhart County so I googled his name.  I discovered that he is also known for a second major in  art.   To explore his art work further, click on the previous link and click here. He is also followed on Facebook and Twitter.

The Old Fool is interested in Rasonlipour’s religious fervor because it contrasts with the fervor of the bombers in Boston.  Their fervor drove them to kill those with whom they differed. Rasonlipour’s fervor drives him to study and to dialogue with those with whom he differs.  I applaud him.

Muhammad carving a relief sculpture titled “Rooted in Love.” It will serve as a frame for quilts made by members of the Goshen Community.for display at the baccalaurate ceremony.

Might behavior be more meaningful than belief? The simple invitation of Jesus was “Follow me.”  Goshen College Mennonite has canceled its Sunday School Classes to make room for the Baccalaurete Ceremony.  The sermon will be preached by President James Brenneman, a friend who hugs the Old Fool when he greets him.

About Martin Lehman

I was born 92 years ago, the son of a Mennonite pastor and organic gardener in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. At age 10 I was baptized as a member of the Marion Mennonite Church. I own the "Old Fool" moniker because I want to walk the Jesus Way even though the world and much of the church takes me as a fool for doing so. In my life I have moved from being a young conservative to an elderly radical. I tell that story in My Faith Journey posted on my website.
