Update on Martin from Rachel

This is Rachel.  I am sitting with my father, Martin, in his room (508L) at Greencroft Gables in Goshen.

He would like to say as the old fool that “the world is on a ruinous course.  Jesus demonstrated the way to end all wars.  It is much better to do one’s enemies good than to do them harm.  That’s a simple way that a man with a weak mind can figure out.  What would happen if the United States took a simple way?”

Dad says these are the things he would write if he had the chance.  Dad is recovering from a pretty serious bout with pneumonia that took him last Wednesday to IU Goshen hospital.  With the help of antibiotics by IV and good medical staff Dad had recovered well enough on Sunday to be transferred to the rehabilitation unit at Greencroft for short term rehab before returning home.   Dad will have therapy every day to increase his strength and stamina.  He is eager to be able to directly communicate his thoughts with you soon.

Until then, Eldon and I will help him to communicate as often as possible.  He is watching the news and is very aware of the direction of the US government discussions.  He prays for peace and justice and for our leaders to follow the “simple way” as he would term it.

About Martin Lehman

I was born 92 years ago, the son of a Mennonite pastor and organic gardener in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. At age 10 I was baptized as a member of the Marion Mennonite Church. I own the "Old Fool" moniker because I want to walk the Jesus Way even though the world and much of the church takes me as a fool for doing so. In my life I have moved from being a young conservative to an elderly radical. I tell that story in My Faith Journey posted on my website.

  1. Thank you, Rachael. You are all in my prayers. I’m glad Martin is gaining strength. I will spread that good news here. I am reading the book he loaned me and thinking about his assignment to me. The photo of him with a grandson reading together is framed and in my bookcase with other intresting pictures of children. I like it. saz
