In the Likeness of a Merciful God

Seasonal ancient proclamation by angels of peace on earth among those of Goodwill combined with TV News with names like Trump, Moore and Jones moves me to work for justice and peace for every one. In the Bible, a genius-like God created all things in only six days. When murder loomed the  Genius became a Law-giver who decreed capital punishment for murderers.  Justice was embedded on the psyche of the first murderer.  In a complaint to God he confessed his fear.”  The murderer needed protection, comfort and mercy.  Mercifully, the one who made the decree, reversed it. He put His mark on the murderer lest any one who found him should attack him.

Adam Scharf

I’m pondering my roles as a citizen of the heavenly kingdom, a world citizen, and a citizen of the United States, the state of Indiana, the county of Elkhart, the city of Goshen, and the Greencroft community.  My pondering began with meeting Adam Scharf and Julia King, city council members.  I also met Yatish Joshi who is running as the Democratic nominee for the second district in Indiana.  A native of Bombay, India, and having lived for forty years in Indiana, Joshi is so disturbed by present political situation that he has entered politics.

I am encouraged by the quality of the candidates who offer themselves for service.  Jess Phoenix is a young scientist offering herself to represent a district in California. Check here to find out about her. In these time every one who is in God’s image must look for a special place of service in the name of the Biblical God who is both genius and a merciful law giver.

Read a few lines of an Ode to a FOOL:

The first son,
jealous of his younger brother,
in anger struck him and killed him.
“Whoever finds me will kill me,” cried the killer.

(Everyone knows a killer should be killed to deter killing.)

But the FOOL
being the FOOL
and always the FOOL
dared to protect the Killer by a mark for life,
anyway!

I love the FOOL for the FOOL loves me!

About Martin Lehman

I was born 91 years ago, the son of a Mennonite pastor and organic gardener in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. At age 10 I was baptized as a member of the Marion Mennonite Church. I own the “Old Fool” moniker because I want to walk the Jesus Way even though the world and much of the church takes me as a fool for doing so. In my life I have moved from being a young conservative to an elderly radical. I tell that story in My Faith Journey posted on my website.
