The first page of Joyce’s scrapbook

When Joyce and I were exploring friendship we agreed that we would not need to think alike to be friends.  We both think a lot, and we communicate a lot.  Early in her downsizing, Joyce showed me a scrapbook that began with a large picture of the Obama family and continued with clippings of news from that era.  Obviously, she admires the Obama family.  She is not making a similar book of memories from the present era.

If you are interested and have not already read my political heritage you may find it quickly by clicking here.  At 91 I enjoyed rereading it.  I was “born” in what can be described as a non-voting Republican leaning Mennonite family and evolved into a voting Democrat who leans toward being an independent.

A partisan sticker

Democrats.org sent me a bumper sticker which I could not use as intended since I have no bumper. Greencroft residents are expected to be cautious in promoting partisan political views, so I pasted the sticker inside my apartment on the front of a drawer of my computer desk.  Few people enter this “sanctuary” but when Joyce saw it she asked a thinker’s question: is that a christian-like sticker?

That is an excellent question considering that the Apostle Peter instructed his readers to submit to every human authority including the emperor and concluded that proper respect should be given to everyone. Add to Peter’s words that the Apostle Paul in a letter to Timothy urged that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all those in authority so that the people of that time could live peaceful and quiet lives.

The psychiatrist

This past Sunday our group viewed a you tube interview of a psychiatrist by another MD about the behavior of President Trump.  According to the psychiatrist our president’s bad behavior is not because he is out of his mind. His behavior is so bad because he is such a bad man.  My question is how do I honor him when he is so bad?   Click here to view the You Tube information.

About Martin Lehman

I was born 92 years ago, the son of a Mennonite pastor and organic gardener in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. At age 10 I was baptized as a member of the Marion Mennonite Church. I own the "Old Fool" moniker because I want to walk the Jesus Way even though the world and much of the church takes me as a fool for doing so. In my life I have moved from being a young conservative to an elderly radical. I tell that story in My Faith Journey posted on my website.
